Circa Nocturna 2009 is done and dusted – the clothes are packed up, and the designers and models can finally relax, until next year!!
For those who’ve not heard of Circa Nocturna, it’s Melbourne’s biggest alternative fashion event. It usually coincides with the L’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival, you can find more information on the Circa Nocturna Website. I had a great time this year – as one of the official event photographers, it was a great opportunity to be a part of the event, and I got to prepare for the conditions more than I could in the past. Lighting is always a challenge at catwalk shows, it’s rarely perfectly balanced and often flares in the most inconvenient places – like just where you want to shoot!! This years CN had its challenges, no doubt, but from a photographer perspective it was _miles_ better than the lights we worked with last year!!
This year I also took part in the follow-up event, with my stand at Carnivale Nocturna, the exhibition held for designers (and photographers, also featuring carnival performers and many of the previous nights models) – Carnivale was a great little event, it looked like quite a few people came through and at one stage I had people 4 deep at my stand (watching the slideshow of previous night’s shots, not there to talk to me!!).
Special shout outs to DalaiHarma, Koukei, Disenchanted Photography, Vitae Clothing, Sarah Coghlan, Black Cats Angel Designs, and all the other designers and models who dropped past and said nice things about my work, it means a lot to me folks!!
